Adoption Policies

  • All animals are adopted to indoor only homes.
  • You must be 18 years or older to adopt.
  • Adopters must be willing to participate in follow-up contact after adoption, whether in person or via phone.
  • If approved, the adopter must sign a legally binding adoption contract outlining the parameters and requirements of adoption.
  • Adoption fees vary based on the animal. Please contact us for more information regarding a specific animal.
  • All animals adopted through WAAL come spayed/neutered, microchipped, vaccinated (age-appropriate), dewormed, and tested for heartworms (dogs aged 6 months or older) or feline leukemia (cats aged 6 months or older).
  • All dogs must be kept on monthly heartworm/flea prevention by owner once adopted.
  • Cats will never be declawed once adopted.

We require an approved application to schedule adoption meetings with our animals. Applications typically take a few days to a week to process and you will be notified thereafter. An application does not obligate you to adopt.

We do not have a blanket policy regarding fences – some dogs require them, some do not. We will make that determination based on the dog’s needs.

WAAL makes a lifetime commitment to our animals.

If for any reason you cannot keep an animal you adopt from WAAL, it must be returned to us or approval given for other arrangements – even 10 years down the road.
