WAAL Policies

Admission of any animal into WAAL for rehoming is based on the animal’s health, behavior, and adoptability. Animals are admitted when foster space and financial resources are available. Animal admission is at the sole discretion of WAAL Executive Director and Board of Directors.

In compliance with Kansas State Department of Agriculture ordinance, Wichita Animal Action League is not able to accept stray or abandoned animals. All stray and abandoned animals MUST be taken to the animal control facility in the county in which the animal was found to give the owner three days to reclaim their lost pet.

All animals being surrendered by their owners to WAAL must be accompanied by a signed owner relinquish form and copies of any vet records. There is a surrender fee of $30 for dogs and $20 for cats, to help offset the cost of housing, feeding, and providing medical care to said animals.

Adoption Policies

  • All animals (except feral cats) are adopted to indoor only homes.
  • You must be 18 years or older to adopt.
  • Adopters must be willing to participate in follow-up contact after adoption, whether in person or via phone.
  • If adopter is no longer able to keep animal, it must be returned to WAAL, or permission obtained from a WAAL representative for other arrangements.
  • If approved, adopter must sign legally binding adoption contract outlining parameters and requirements of adoption.
  • Adoption fees vary based on the animal. Please contact us for more information regarding a specific animal.
  • All WAAL animals are spayed/neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, dewormed and dogs are heartworm tested prior to adoption (age appropriate).
  • If adopter already has dogs at residence, they must meet the new dog before the adoption is finalized.
  • All dogs must be kept on monthly heartworm/flea prevention by owner once adopted.
  • Cats will never be declawed once adopted.

We require an approved application to schedule adoption meetings with our animals. Applications typically take 1-3 days to process and you will be notified thereafter. An application does not obligate you to adopt.

We do not have a blanket policy regarding fences – some dogs require them, some do not. We will make that determination based on the dog’s needs.

WAAL makes a lifetime commitment to our animals.

If for any reason you cannot keep an animal you adopt from WAAL, it must be returned to us or approval given for other arrangements – even 10 years down the road.
