Frequently Asked Questions

How much does it cost to adopt?

Adoption fees vary based on the animal and any adoption special we’re running. Ask a WAAL rep for information.

What’s included in my adoption?

All animals are sterilized, microchipped, vaccinated (age appropriate), dewormed, heartworm tested (dogs) and leukemia tested (cats).

I don’t have a fence, so can I still adopt?

We do not have a blanket policy regarding fences. Some dogs will require them; some do not. We can help you find a good fit.

Do you adopt to people who live in apartments?

All the time! We work hard to find a good fit for you and your lifestyle.

What’s your policy on outdoor animals?

Because we want your pet to be part of your family, all of our animals are adopted to indoor-only homes (except feral cats).

I have another dog at home. How does that work?

We will introduce a potential dog to your current pack to ensure it’s a good fit and that everyone starts off on the right paw.

What about declawing?

Research has shown the devastating results of declawing. Because of this, we have a strict no-declaw policy. This helps prevent personality changes and increased aggression, as well as any potential to develop litter box aversion. You can adopt an already declawed cat if you’d like!

I’m looking for a specific breed or gender.

We get specialty breeds in all the time: dogs and cats! Set up a PetAlert to be first in line when we get something in that you’re looking for.

What’s the benefit of adoption?

Because our animals are all in foster homes, we’re better equipped to tell you their likes, dislikes, and habits. Plus they’ve already had time to work on potty training!
