Affordable Local Pet Health Assistance (ALPHA)

We recognize that sometimes life throws us curve balls that make it difficult for loving pet owners to be able to afford veterinary care. We also know that an owner’s financial status in no way says anything about how much they love their pets. Because we want to support pet owners in accessing veterinary resources for their beloved pets and help them keep their pets at home and out of shelters and rescues, we launched our ALPHA program at the end of 2024.
 
We currently partner with Bruce Veterinary Services and K-State University Veterinary School Outreach Program to offer this program at least twice a month to low-income residents in Sedgwick County. The locations vary as we want to offer ALPHA to as many pets and owners as possible and want to remove lack of transportation as a barrier to receiving these services.

Some Facts about ALPHA

  1. ALPHA is designed to provide urgent care type services, vaccines, or wellness exams. This might include: ear infections, lameness, skin issues, injuries, etc.
  2. This is a first come-first serve clinic and walk-ins will be accepted until 30 minutes before the clinic is scheduled to end. We cannot guarantee that everyone who comes will be seen. Please plan for a wait so bring water, chairs, etc.
  3. ALPHA clinics have a limit of 20 animals per day.
  4. The locations and dates of clinics can be found here.
  5. Standard ALPHA clinics are NOT surgical clinics. We do not do spay/neuter at these clinics. If your pet’s condition requires surgery, we will consider referring your case to Bruce Veterinary Services at a later time.
  6. Dogs must be on leashes and cats in carriers.
  7. The same pet will only be seen once per quarter.
  8. A maximum of two pets per household.
  9. There is a $30 copay per pet.
  10. WAAL and other local rescue organizations do offer free vaccine clinics each quarter secondary to ALPHA clinics. These clinics may be another option if you are needing vaccines or microchips only.

Grants for the ALPHA Program

About Time Charitable Trust

We’d like to thank About Time Charitable Trust for providing several grants for our ALPHA program and for recognizing the need for this type of program and how it can prevent unnecessary surrenders to shelters and rescues, can provide financial euthanasia, and can improve the quality of life for pets in loving homes. Their financial assistance and guidance has helped significantly!

Pets for the Elderly

Due to a grant from Pets for the Elderly, we are currently able to offer dental care assistance for dogs and cats belonging to low-income senior owners (over 60 years of age) living in Sedgwick County. These spots are very limited. If interested, please email [email protected]

Grey Muzzle Foundation

Due to a grant from the Grey Muzzle Foundation, we are also able to provide extended services to senior dogs (aged 7 and older) so that low-income pet owners can keep their beloved dogs at home and ensure a good ongoing quality of life. These pups can be brought to any existing ALPHA clinic to access these veterinary services.
