Animal Surrender

REhoming & Surrender resources

Having to surrender a pet can be one of the hardest things you'll ever have to do. We realize that there are legitimate reasons for needing to rehome a pet, but we also know that sometimes people just need a little support to be able to keep their furry family member.

As you make the decision to rehome your pet, we want to make sure you are aware of the situation animal welfare finds itself in today.  Simply put, animal welfare in Sedgwick County and across the country is in crisis. Rescues and shelters are completely overwhelmed with unwanted pets. Shelters do not have enough room to hold them all, and rescues are full as well. No rescue or shelter has open kennels or fosters just waiting for your pets. Most rescues are closed to new intakes.  Shelters are forced to euthanize for space.  If an organization is open to any type of intake, it will likely be a considerable wait before arrangements can be made to accommodate your pets.

There is generally no safer place for your pet than your own home. Because of this, we will ALWAYS seek to assist pet owners with programs or resources to help keep a pet in a loving home. Some examples of surrender diversion might be dog training assistance, pet food banks, veterinary assistance, or help with accessing other resources.
